On Wednesday 20th May, Kat had the fantastic honour of being invited to Buckingham Palace to join other Duke of Edinburgh leaders in celebrating the Award’s 70th anniversary.
The celebration included inspiring talks from supporters of the Award. Sam Thompson spoke openly about the importance of supportive school staff in helping him manage ADHD, while Gareth Malone highlighted the powerful role music can play in supporting our mental health. The Duke of Edinburgh himself gave heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, volunteers and parents who help young people achieve their Awards.
It was also wonderful to hear how the Award continues to become more accessible for young people with additional needs. At Mountjoy, we are proud to offer Bronze and Silver Awards to our KS4 and Post-16 students – and who knows, perhaps Gold in the future… and maybe even a trip to the Palace for our students one day!
A truly memorable and inspiring experience.
