We continue to have a lot of fun in You Do Music sessions! The children and young people are really gaining in musical skills across the year and several have settled with a particular instrument. We have a keyboard section, a drumming and other percussion section, and a very accomplished Soundbeam player, who plays his instrument by controlled head movements.
In addition to the main session with a dozen students, we also have a sensory session, based in Juniper class and joined by some of the younger children. We have an opening and closing song, and in between we make music, and also listen to some live music in different styles and say whether or not we like it. Some students are starting to indicate a definite preference for quieter music.
The main You Do Music group, along with the Sing and Sign Choir, will be performing in Lyme Regis as part of the B Sharp festival on 27th June. Our slot will be at about midday. Do come and support us there.

Some of the students in Ash and Oak have been on their expeditions working towards their Bronze & Silver Awards. Last week they enjoyed walking in the West Dorset countryside and having some well-earned time in nature. Some students chose to stay and camp on the school field where we had the fire pit lit and we cooked some “Smores” whilst star gazing.

Rowan Class had a fantastic afternoon at Kingcombe for their first visit of the year. We spent time identifying trees and flowers, and paused to listen carefully to birdsong, using the Merlin app to help us recognise different species.
A wonderful start to our outdoor learning this term — we’re excited to see what the next few weeks have in store!
