Ash Class Bridport visit

Ash Class Bridport visit

Ash class treated themselves to an end of term Breakfast treat in Wetherspoon’s, Bridport.  They all ordered their own meals independently, some also caught the local public bus into town. They then walked around the town seeing the new elephant display and finished with a trip to the Library.  A great finish to the term.

Ash class split into two groups last week to all enjoy a trip to the farm on Wednesday and Thursday, some students got to meet a goat or two and others did team building games to work towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards  We were all spoilt with a lovely lunch provided by Magdelen Farm using the farm’s own produce.

Thank you Phrenix for our day at The Wave

Thank you Phrenix for our day at The Wave

Mountjoy school students got to experience The Wave again thanks to Phrenix and what an amazing day it was for everyone.  Despite it being a bit chilly being mid-October everyone managed to get in the water and enjoy some surfing.  The instructors were fantastic at supporting the group to take part no matter what their ability.  For many of our students this will be a once in a lifetime experience and with The Wave and Phrenix supporting we had enough people in the water to make surfing a possibility for them.  Some of our students shared “I was very determined to stand and I got really close” “It was amazing, I loved it so much” “I liked watching the waves” “It was really nice, thank you for letting us go”.  It was amazing for the Mountjoy staff to see the smiles, laughter and achievements that each student made some very proud moments!

Visit from SSCO Pepper and SSCO Hann

Visit from SSCO Pepper and SSCO Hann

Today, we had a great visit from SSCO Albert Pepper and SSCO Stuart Hann to talk to our older students regarding online safety.  They spoke to the students about how to stay safe and how to speak to each other whilst online but also who to talk to if they are at school or at home and are worried about anything they see or hear.  All the students were great and answered questions and scenarios with enthusiasm.

Hello Yellow Day

Hello Yellow Day

Ash class organised a day of activities for Hello Yellow Day to go towards their volunteering element of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.  Hello Yellow Day is a charity supporting young minds and yesterday was World Mental Health Day.
Ash pupils planned Wellie Wangling, football shoot outs, high tea, and Minion films for the students and Bacon sandwiches for staff.  All the school gathered in the afternoon for a fun filled Custard Pie quiz for the senior staff.
Ash students would like to thank some organisations who donated goods for this event.
Waitrose, Dorchester for the high tea ingredients.
Barrett Bros in Crewkerne for the lovely bacon
Moores Biscuits in Bridport for prizes.
The whole school enjoyed a fun filled day and learnt the importance of good mental health awareness.
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

On 11th and 12th July, 7 students from Ash class took part in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition.  They have been working on their other sections through the year.  We prepared for the expedition with map reading and navigation, stove cooking and basic first aid.  Day 1 we started the day preparing a brunch of noodles and pancakes cooking on Trangia stoves to give us some extra energy.  We then walked around the Mapperton estate following a circular route.  Day 2 we set off from school walking a route out to Netherbury church and back round to Beaminster.  The expedition was assessed externally and all the students who completed both days passed with flying colours.  Lynn our assessor was very impressed with their navigation skills and how their team work developed over the two days.  Well done Ash students!
