Magdelen Farm Elm & Juniper Class December 2023

Magdelen Farm Elm & Juniper Class December 2023

Our 2nd visit to the farm for some of Juniper and Elm pupils.
A cold and damp morning greeted us for our visit. Even Icicles were seen on the thatched roof of our base the round house. We were talked through the rules of the farm before snack.  First we fed the goats, off we went with a hand full of hay each. We each took turns to give the goats the hay. Once finished we went into the field to say hello, some more than others enjoyed this experience.  After this we collected food for the pigs, everyone helping to carry a bucket up to the pens. Everyone helped to feed them a little persuasion was needed for some that it would be ok.  Next the chickens, we all had a good look around and some attempted to persuade the chickens to eat from their hands but the chickens were very timid so unsuccessful this time. Everyone got to collect an egg to put in the bucket.
Then back to the round house which still had icicles on the roof for lunch.
Once warmed up a little and after our lunch, it was decided that we would call it a day.  It was just too cold to venture up to the allotment, so we packed up and went back to school.  A great time had by all even if it was cold.
Thanks again to the staff of Magdalen farm for making it another great day.

Magdelen Farm Elm & Juniper Class Autumn Term 2023

A dry sunny day ahead for our first visit to Magdalen Farm for some pupils from Juniper and Elm class.
Wellies on we went up to feed the pigs some chopped apples. The pigs were very happy to see us. Some of us were a bit unsure at first but we all helped to feed them, even the staff.  Next up to collect eggs and say hello to the chickens. We also had the opportunity to touch a chicken, if we wanted too. Next on to the egganator with our eggs.
The goats were our next port of call.  Getting up close we all managed to touch them, they were so calm with us.
We said good bye to our Friend from Juniper class and had lunch.
The afternoon was more hands on. Collecting compost in our buckets for the vegetable patch. Then some craft activities before saying good bye to our friends from the farm,
We had a lovely day and would like to thank Magdalen Farm and especially Rhian and Isobel who helped us.

Off site exploration for Laurel Class Autumn Term 2023

On Friday 17th November Laurel class spent the day at Magdalen Farm learning about all aspects of the farm life. This was an amazing day and all the students were fully engaged in all the activities. We helped care for the farm animals and learnt about organic welfare standards. We fed the pigs and goats, and used kind caring hands to hold the chickens. We collected some eggs and used a special machine to separate them into different sizes. After lunch we took part in Vegetable Garden Jobs and complete valuable day-to-day jobs such as pulling up carrots and putting down compost to feed the ground. Finishing the day with making bird feeders and decorations for the Christmas tree.
